We were very lucky to be joined by Phil Bright Head of Research and Professional Development at the ESO for a workshop on Clinical Audit on 18th February.

Phil outlined the advantages to audit and how this can be used as the objective activity within the new CPD scheme. He talked through how we need to record our objective activity, and why audit is important in relation to discovering how we can do better to develop our practices and patient care.

Audit can be focused on an area that is important to you and one in which you want to find out more about how well you are performing. It must demonstrate a cycle of action to prove you have reflected upon and acted upon the initial results and then re-audited to see the impact of these changes.

NCOR have many guidelines on their website as well as the CPD website set up by GOsC if you need further support in this area or would like to read more.

The ESO are also offering to assist members with an audit tool that can be used online or on paper. From this the ESO will generate a report that summarises your results. Members are encouraged to contact us if they are interested in taking this offer up.
